Rachel, rising

for those among you who have never read my short story the velvet and want to, get it while you can. originally published by our friends at nerve.com, it won’t be up for long. special bonus: a taste of Rachel before she became Rachel, sort of a coming-of-age story.

sometimes.

Lost

and no, I’m not talking about the upcoming new television drama by the creator of Alias, wherein a dozen or so beautiful people in torn clothing and perpetually wet skin crash land on some middle of fucking nowhere island and proceed to get Lord of the Flies freaky. this was an idea I had two or three years ago while sucking down soju at a little dive in Koreatown with my actor pal will yun lee and writing partner sterling anderson… we later eighty-sixed the scheme as being too stupid and too obvious to fly but that’s hollywood, where stupid and obvious become the poetry of the masses. and the sick or possibly brilliant part is that by all reports this show is supposed to be really very good… no, that eerie but pleasantly lost feeling I’m talking about it is how for the past thirty-six hours every time I wander into the new forum that is the velvet I get sucked in. one theory has it that the blood maroon backdrop hypnotizes the eye.. but to be honest I think there have already been a lot of powerful and interesting posts by the expanding velvet family in just a small chunk of time. some potent conversations are brewing in there. and then I glimmered that things over here on the primary site need tending to, that chapter 4 of sometimes Rachel- big empty -was scheduled to hit the site today. so my droogs and I got cracking and here it be.

keep your friends close

and your enemies closer. not that I expect any bloodletting. I’ve just always loved that sentiment.. so the big news is that the spanking new dicussion forum, phineaspoe.com, is now open for traffic. speak, friend and enter. Like a team of mad elves on meth, the walking tall website crew of dennis, mirka, kareem, and kirk, put the icing on this cake and blew out the candles last night while the rest of us slept. this thing is just a beauty to behold, and the banner by roland is sick. that kid is talented… above all, my hope is that this forum will at long last bring the faithful together under one roof, where they can discuss all things Poe and whatever else strikes a personal nerve, as the outlets for communication among us are currently scattered to hell and back. when last I looked, there existed the stone age comments element on this site, a yahoo street team thread plagued by pop-up ads, disembodied threads at the cult site, and the personal email questions, which I am faithfully but way too slowly responding to.
so come on in and take a tour and by god speak your mind. and if you like what you see here, don’t tell me. tell it to the mad elves.

reap the whirlwind.
